Housing Policy for Belonging

Purpose

Eastern Arizona College is committed to creating an environment where every student experiences a sense of safety, support, and belonging. EA’s housing approach reflects the college’s dedication to providing living opportunities for all students, without barriers or bias.

Core Commitment

EA believes every student deserves access to housing that aligns with their comfort, expression, and well-being. The college provides respectful accommodations that honor student’s lived experiences and ensure that no student feels unseen.

Housing Assignments

  • Students may request living arrangements that reflect their personal comfort and support their sense of belonging.
  • Matching roommates and suit-mates will be based on mutual preferences and a shared respect for individual differences.
  • Options for private or semi-private rooms will be available as resources allow for students who prefer additional privacy.

Access to Facilities

  • All residential students may use shared facilities, such as restrooms and showers, based on where they feel most at ease.
  • Single-occupancy restrooms and private-use options will be provided in residence halls wherever possible.

Community Expectations

  • All residents are expected to contribute to a respectful and welcoming living environment.
  • Harassment, exclusion, or disrespect toward others based on personal characteristics or expression will not be tolerated.
  • Students are encouraged to engage in a culture of care, empathy, and shared responsibility.

Support and Confidentiality

  • Information shared during the housing process will be handled confidentially and used only to support placements that promote student well-being.
  • Residential staff are trained in inclusive practices to assist students with housing needs and concerns.

Feedback and Improvement

  • This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it continues to reflect the values of inclusivity, safety, and belonging.
