Respected college communicator and community leader, Todd Haynie became the twenty-second president of Eastern Arizona College on May 16, 2018.
President Haynie’s heritage is closely tied to the Gila Valley, where his family has lived for several generations. He was born in Morenci, graduated from Thatcher High School, and is a proud alumnus of EAC – an institution that ignited his passion for learning and defined his career path.
After completing his studies at EAC and serving a two-year religious mission in Greece, President Haynie earned his undergraduate degree in film studies from Brigham Young University. He then obtained a Master’s of Business Administration degree with distinction from Northern Arizona University, where he had the honor of delivering the commencement address for his graduating class.
President Haynie’s professional journey began in the private sector with the Educational Management Group, a subsidiary of Simon and Schuster, where he produced award-winning educational videos. He then joined IBM as a software engineer, where he developed innovative problem-solving skills.
His tenure at IBM was interrupted when he was invited by his alma mater, EAC, to serve as an admissions counselor. Embracing this opportunity, he successfully recruited students to the college that profoundly influenced his early years and laid the foundation for his future success. He was later promoted to director of public relations and marketing, where he specialized in reputation management, message development, media relations, and video production, contributing to a period of significant growth for EAC.
Under his leadership, President Haynie has guided Eastern Arizona College through a strategic planning process that involved students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and the community, aimed at guiding the College into the next decade. His leadership has seen the restructuring of executive positions, the introduction of initiatives to enhance campus diversity, and the transformation of developmental education. He has articulated the guiding principles of his administration – student success, community engagement, and financial stewardship – to numerous stakeholders. Additionally, he oversaw a comprehensive rebranding of the College’s logo and mascot, encapsulating EAC’s identity and mission.
Beyond his duties at EAC, President Haynie serves on the Arizona Community College Coordinating Council and as a commissioner for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
In the community, President Haynie is an active leader in his church, has served on the Thatcher Town Council, and held a board position with the local Chamber of Commerce. Yet, he considers his role as a husband and father to be his most important responsibilities. He and his wife, Shalay, are proud parents of four children, all of whom aspire to attend EAC.
