Eastern Arizona College SBDC Hosts Successful Young Entrepreneur Excellence Training (YEET) Program

THATCHER, Ariz. —  The Eastern Arizona College (EAC) Small Business Development Center (SBDC) recently concluded its highly anticipated Young Entrepreneur Excellence Training (YEET) program, aimed at nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit among high school students from the Gila Valley and surrounding areas.

From July 8-11, budding young innovators gathered at the EAC Campus in Thatcher for an intensive week-long bootcamp, facilitated by the SBDC. The program provided participants with hands-on experience in business ideation, planning, and pitching, culminating in a spirited competition reminiscent of the popular show “Shark Tank.”

“This was a great group of students,” remarked Torey Cranford, EAC SBDC business analyst. “They all represented the entrepreneurial mindset with their creativity, curiosity, willingness to try something new, taking a risk, and their adaptability. It was truly a pleasure working with each of these young people..”

Winners of the YEET Pitch Competition include:

1st place ($1000): Rebecca Medina

2nd place ($500): Lindsay Goodman

3rd place ($200 each): Roselyn Dorrell, Mason Mleynek, and Justin Hanchett (tied)

The competition showcased a diverse range of business ideas, from tech innovations to community-focused ventures, highlighting the participants’ entrepreneurial drive and ingenuity.

Throughout the program, students engaged in interactive sessions led by SBDC experts, gaining valuable insights into idea generation, market strategies, and the realities of starting and running a business. Participants also benefited from mentorship opportunities with local business owners, enriching their learning experience and providing real-world perspectives.

“The YEET program not only equips students with essential entrepreneurial skills but also encourages them to pursue their passions and make meaningful contributions to their communities,” added Cranford.

The success of YEET underscores the SBDC’s commitment to fostering innovation and preparing young minds for future success in business and beyond. As participants reflect on their experiences, many are already considering how to apply their newfound knowledge to future endeavors.
