Eastern Arizona College proposed budget includes tax rate reduction for 2025

THATCHER, Ariz. — Eastern Arizona College’s (EAC) tax levy proposal includes a lower tax rate for the 2025 budget year, which will be considered by the Graham County Community College District Governing Board (Governing Board).

The proposal would drop the rate from $2.60 to $2.46, representing a 14-cent reduction from last year’s rate. Because the reduced rate will include a 2% levy increase and generate additional funds, statutory language refers to this as a tax increase, when in fact it will result in a tax rate reduction. Consequently, we are required to inform the community in the following manner:

Statutory Language for Truth in Taxation Notice: In compliance with section 15-1461.01, Arizona Revised Statutes, Graham County Community College District is notifying its property taxpayers of Graham County Community College District’s intention to raise its primary property taxes over last year's level. The Graham County Community College District is proposing an increase in primary property taxes of $158,189 or 2%.
For example, the proposed tax increase will cause Graham County Community College District’s primary property taxes on a $100,000 home to be $246.09 (total proposed taxes including the tax increase). Without the proposed tax increase, the total taxes that would be owed on a $100,000 home would have been $241.27.
This proposed increase is exclusive of increased primary property taxes received from new construction. The increase is also exclusive of any changes that may occur from property tax levies for voter approved bonded indebtedness or budget and tax overrides.
All interested citizens are invited to attend the public hearing on the tax increase that is scheduled to be held June 13, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Eastern Arizona College Student Services Building – Governing Board Room, EAC Middle Campus, 615 North Stadium Avenue, Thatcher, Arizona 85552-0769.

The Truth in Taxation Notice will be posted in the Eastern Arizona Courier on May 29 and will be posted again on June 5. For more information about EAC’s proposed 2024-2025 budget please click here.
