Eastern Arizona College’s English Department held its annual English Honors Night last week. The night opened with EAC choir members singing the Alma Mater. Then the winners of the 14th annual academic paper were recognized. In this competition, entrants must be nominated by English department faculty who consider the students’ work to be outstanding examples of research and writing. After a panel of EAC faculty members adjudicated the nominations, three students were recognized for their excellence in writing.
Jordan Rose was awarded first place for her essay, “Cyberbullying and Mental Health.” “AI and Humanity,” the title of the second-place essay, was written by Ethan Lauer. Third place was awarded to Samuel Guy for his essay, “Labor Exploitation of Migrant Workers in Qatar.”
The evening concluded with five students (Cheyanne Blasi, Nancy Fontaine, Ethan Lauer, Aliyah Mitchell, and Jordan Rose) being inducted into the Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta, the national English honor society, in the chapter’s 12th annual ceremony.
Sigma Kappa Delta honors excellence in the disciplines of writing, reading, and critical thinking. All initiates must have completed at least one course in college English with a “B” or higher and maintained a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
EAC English faculty Dr. Jacob Lauritzen, Mary Ann Larson, and Dr. Bern Mulvey officiated the night.
Students and community members interested in continuing their education are encouraged to register now for upcoming summer and fall courses at Eastern Arizona College. Summer classes begin May 26, and fall semester classes begin Aug. 17. Registration is open through the MyEAC portal or in person through the Admissions and Registration Office.
