EA’s annual Masterworks Concert welcomes renowned organist Tigran Buniatyan for an unforgettable performance

THATCHER, AZ— Eastern Arizona College (EA) is pleased to announce the return of its celebrated annual Masterworks Concert, now in its third year, slated for Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 7 p.m., in the Fine Arts Auditorium. This year’s performance is distinguished by the appearance of guest organist Tigran Buniatyan, an Armenian native and acclaimed keyboard artist.

Buniatyan, an award-winning musician featured by the New York Times and American Public Media, is noted for his expertise on historical keyboard instruments and his involvement with The North German Organ School repertoire. Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree in music at Arizona State University where he also serves as a teaching assistant. In addition, Buniatyan is the Director of Music at Mountain View Lutheran Church, in Phoenix.

Dr. Gideon Burrows, EA choir director, expressed enthusiasm about Buniatyan’s participation: “We are excited to have him join us for our Masterworks Concert. His talent and dedication to historical music will certainly elevate our program.”

The Masterworks Concert has grown from a vision to celebrate music and unite the community. This year’s concert will include performances by the choirs of Thatcher and Safford High Schools, the GVC Jazz, the EAC Symphonic and A Cappella Choirs, and the college’s Symphony Orchestra. A highlight of the evening will be Buniatyan’s solo work on the college’s Rogers Trillium organ.

The concert’s second half features the stirring “Requiem for the Living” by Dan Forrest, a piece as much for the living as it is a remembrance for those who have passed. Combining traditional and modern elements, this five-movement work is interpreted as a profound journey through the spectrum of human emotion.

Admission to the event is free, reflecting EAC’s commitment to accessible cultural experiences. This assembly of musical talent promises to be an enriching experience for the community and an embodiment of the college’s dedication to the arts.
