This course seeks to provide students with a broad base of knowledge about the theatre
and foster an appreciation of this dynamic art form through the study of dramatic
plays, varied theatrical practices, the roles of different stage artists, and the
historical and cultural significances of diverse dramatic forms and genres.
Stagecraft will introduce to the student a practical approach to the technical and
production aspects of musical theatre and drama. Students will use a variety of techniques
as they learn scenic artistry and develop the skills needed to construct scenery,
hang and focus lighting instruments, and implement a sound system for effects and
reinforcement. In conjunction with the Music and Drama Departments, students will
take an active role in each of the major productions.
