A wide range of opportunities for hairdressers, hairstylists, cosmetologists, and nail technicians are available, ranging from basic haircutting and styling to the high-fashion worlds of modeling and entertainment. Entry-level positions are generally not hard to find and once you work hard at building a reliable clientele, you can compete for more competitive positions in the prestigious salons with higher pay. The Cosmetology Program provides students an opportunity to apply cosmetology practices and principles in a simulated salon environment. You can earn either an Associate of Applied Science or a certificate — both include the 1,600 hours of training necessary to take the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology examination. Classes meet approximately nine hours a day, five days a week, with required Saturdays each month. The AAS degree is completed by taking 18 general education credits and two elective credits.
Classes for the Cosmetology Instructor Certificate satisfy the 350 hours training necessary to qualify for the state licensing exam.
The Nail Technician Certificate Program emphasis basic nail care, manicuring, and hand and arm massage and satisfies the 600 hours of training necessary to qualify for the state licensing exam.
Cosmetology refresher courses are available if you need additional hours to qualify for the Arizona state board licensing exam, other state cosmetology boards, or if you want to enhance your skills.

Introduction to the basic manipulative skills in manicuring, professional image and
conduct, and personal hygiene. Includes basic sciences in bacteriology, sanitation,
and physiology pertaining to the head, face, hands, and arms. Theory and use of electricity
and light as applied to cosmetology. The course also includes Arizona laws and rules
governing
cosmetology.
First of four courses for students seeking a manicuring license. Includes care and
beautification of the nails, hands, legs, feet, and arms. Emphasis is on theory, proper
use of instruments, equipment, personal hygiene, common nail conditions and diseases,
basic nail techniques, and State Board rules and regulations affecting manicurists.
