August 14-15 and 18-19, 2025 in the Choir Room (FA-111)
Audition Materials (What to Prepare)
Come prepared to sing a selection of serious music such as an art song, folk song, or hymn setting. Do not select a popular song for your main audition piece. Other than that, it really does not matter what you choose. Simply prepare a song that you will be comfortable singing and that will show off your voice at its best. You do not need an accompanist and will sing your selection without accompaniment.
In addition to your song, the director will check your range, have you sight read a short line of music (on par with the Arizona All-State audition), and run a tonal memory exercise. These are not make-or-break parts of the audition; they merely give the directors information on your current skills.
Those auditioning for the Show choir or Vocal Jazz Ensemble will need to prepare an additional song to sing. This piece should be in a contemporary or popular style (show tune, R&B, jazz, pop, etc.). Please do not select a number that requires a character voice or other alteration to your natural sound. Again select a piece that demonstrates your best voice.
