Choral Auditions
A Capella, Revue, Vocal Jazz
Choir auditions are August 14-15 and 18-19, 2025, in the Fine Arts Auditorium Choir Room (FA-111).
Prepare for Your Audition
Come prepared to sing a selection of serious music, i.e., an art song, folk song, or hymn setting, that you will be comfortable singing and will show off your voice at its best. Do not select a popular song for your main audition piece. You will sing your selection without accompaniment.
In addition to your song, the director will
- check your range
- have you sight-read a short line of music
- conduct a tonal memory exercise.
Note: These are not make-or-break parts of the audition; they simply give the directors information about your current skills.
Those auditioning for Revue or Vocal Jazz will need to prepare an additional song to sing. This piece should be in a contemporary or popular style, i.e., show tunes, R&B, jazz, or pop. Please do not select a number that requires a character voice or other alteration to your natural sound.
If you have trouble with the audition sign-up form, need to change your audition time, or wish to participate in an ensemble but audition dates have passed, please contact Dr. Gideon Burrows.
