Work Study Programs

Eastern Arizona College currently administers the following student employment programs:
  • Federal Work Study 
  • Institutional Work Study 

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally-funded employment program available to students who have displayed financial need as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA® ). Institutional Work-Study (IWS) is and institutionally-funded employment program available to enrolled students who are looking to offset the costs of their education.  For additional FWS information visit FAFSA®

These positions are treated as any other job, but have some slight differences:

  • Supervisors schedule work hours around your class schedule
  • We offer on-campus and community off-campus positions
  • Most positions do not require specific skills; this is a great opportunity to learn new abilities
  • Work study job experience provides usable job knowledge and creates beneficial work habits
  • Each position earns Arizona’s minimum hourly wage

Work Study Application Steps

  1. Make sure your FAFSA application is complete
  2. Enroll in eligible courses for the semester 
  3. Contact krista.kouts@eac.edu or the Financial Aid Office at 928-428-8287 to verify your eligibility  
  4.  View the current postitions of available positions 
  5.  Apply directly with the listed Supervisor by turning in the work-study application
  6. After being interviewed and hired return a copy of your application to the Financial Aid Office 
  7. Our office will set up an appointment for you to complete onboarding (FERPA Training) and the payroll packet with the Human Resources Department
  8.  All documents must be completed with the Financial Aid and Human Resources Offices, prior to being able to start work 
  9. Work can begin on the first day of the semester and ends with each semester
  10. Arrange work schedule with supervisor and turn in hours each pay period 

*Most work-study employees average of 6 to 9 hours each week and earn Arizona’s minimum wage of $14.35 per hour.  Earnings are dependent on the supervisor’s needs and the student-awarded budget.  Time sheets are due on the 15th and 30th of each month and students will receive their direct deposit pay on the 7th and the 22nd of each month during the semester. Work study hours may not exceed 19.5 hours in a given week.  Students must stop working on the last day of each semester unless approved by the Supervisor and the Work Study Coordinator. 

Federal Work Study (FWS) Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for FWS you must:

    • Have completed FAFSA®  application and submitted to EAC
    • Have a high school diploma, its recognized equivalent (GED) or completed home schooling
    • Have unmet financial need based on your EFC (Expected Family Contribution)
    • Have a declared major
    • Be enrolled in 6 or more eligible credit hours throughout each semester
    • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress

Institutional Work Study (IWS) Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for IWS you must:

    • Have completed FAFSA®  application and submitted to EAC
    • Have a high school diploma, its recognized equivalent (GED) or completed home schooling
    • Have a declared major
    • Be enrolled in 6 or more credit hours throughout the semester
