Percussion students encouraged to audition for new EAC music scholarship
By Jeanné Clark
THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Instrumental Music Department is offering a new scholarship this year, the Paul and Blanca Roberts Percussion Scholarship, and all percussion students are invited to audition on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in EAC’s Fine Arts Auditorium.
The scholarship, which covers full tuition for two semesters as well as the cost of private percussion lessons, was established by Paul and Blanca Roberts to give young percussionists a chance to attend EAC while perfecting their musical skills. “We have greatly enjoyed our experiences with EAC,” says Mr. Roberts. “It is our wish that students take the most of this opportunity to be involved in the EAC Music program while preparing for the future.”
To be eligible for this scholarship, the recipient must have a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA as well as be classified as a full-time student at the Thatcher Campus. Preference will be given to music majors, but it is not required. However, the recipient must participate in marching band, symphonic band, mallet ensemble and other groups as needed, as well as perform in recitals and juries each semester.
Candidates for the scholarship will be evaluated and the recipient will be selected by EAC’s Band Director. If, after having been awarded the scholarship, the recipient declines to attend the Thatcher Campus of EAC or fails to meet the scholarship criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to another student.
