EAC offering Clogging this summer and fall
By Lori Dugan
THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Dance Department will introduce a new class for its extended summer session. Beginning Clogging I (section #7817) will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. at Discovery Park Campus beginning May 27 and running through July 31.
This is a personal interest dance class taught by Starla Wright who has been teaching clogging to students of all ages for more than 15 years. “I have been enjoying clogging for over 20 years,” says Wright. “It’s been a wonderful way for me to express my passion for both teaching and dancing!”
Clogging can be done with our without clogging taps. A comfortable pair of athletic shoes is the only requirement. Beginning Clogging I is taught in a line dance style without partners.
“The eight basic movements that makeup various clogging steps will be demonstrated and taught into steps,” explained Wright. “The steps are then demonstrated and cued by the instructor to different pieces of music ranging from country to hip-hop.”
The history and evolution of clogging will also be part of the course.
Upon completion of Beginning Clogging I, students will have the option of continuing to an intermediate level.
Younger students (age 3-17) will also have the opportunity to take a clogging class this summer in Wright’s College for Kids class which will be taught over a two-week period, June 2-13.
