A part of the Arizona Centennial Celebration, Eastern Arizona College Choirs present Arizona – Spring Sing 2012. A Cappella Choir opens the show with a choral salute, singing, “I can hear Arizona when the west wind sings. . . We are Arizona. We are what America was meant to be.” As the show progresses, Men’s Chorus recalls the determination of pioneers who settled this valley: “We’re movin’ on to a better land, gonna build our home in Arizona. Keep the wagons arollin’! We gotta reach the Gila by sundown, and there’s a long way to go.” Women’s Chorale salutes the faith of Mexican settlers of Arizona with the resolute words of the prayer “Nada te Turbe” (Let nothing trouble you) sung in the original Spanish. Over nearly 125 years, Eastern Arizona College alumni have woven by life, learning and love, a rich tapestry which benefits and blesses today’s - and future - students. Saluting the bridge from past to the future, the A Cappella Choir combines with alumnus, Ryan Innes, to sing his song: Red Sky. Ryan grew up in Thatcher. His parents are Don and Celeste Innes. While attending EAC, he was a member of A Cappella Choir, Men’s Quartet and Company. Ryan has gone on to pursue a professional composition, recording and performing career. A Cappella Choir, Women’s Chorale and Men’s Chorus join voices in the final segment of Arizona – Spring Sing 2012with a medley of Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, My Country ‘Tis of Thee, and God Bless America. The EAC Choirs premiere a new choral setting of I Love You, Arizona. This salute to Arizona with words and music by Willcox’s own Rex Allen, includes EAC’s closing salute to “Arizona . . . your sunsets put music in music in us all. I love you, Arizona, you’re the magic in me.” The celebration of Arizona Statehood is the framework of Arizona – Spring Sing 2012. That framework broadens to include songs of romance; songs of devotion; folk songs; gospel; musical theater; choral classics; and the exuberance of the gang from the “Peanuts” cartoon strip with music from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. GuyZ, the popular men’s ensemble, will delight with the zany Brand New Shoes as they inform the audience that they “are the coolest kid in school with my brand new shoes.” The 2012 Gila Valley Idol, Ethan McBride, solos with GuyZ in the traditional hymn His Eye is on the Sparrow. Fourté, the EAC women’s quartet, brings a slice of the new broadway musical “Sister Act” to life in Raise Your Voice, as the girls discover the power in unleashing their vocal inhibitions. Fourté does the 1954 Chordettes hit: Mister Sandman. The 184 singers from Eastern Arizona College Choirs invite everyone in the Gila Valley and beyond to this musical smorgasbord! We are thrilled to be part of the birthday celebration of Arizona. “Arizona. . . let us stand and cheer for this grandest state!” Tickets for Arizona – Spring Sing 2012 are $5 and are available at the EAC Ticket Office (928.428.8228).
