EAC’s College for Kids Classes begin June 5

THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s College for Kids program gets underway June 5 with 12 different classes to choose from: Beginning Percussion, Ceramics, Dance, Knitting for Beginners, Magic for Kids, Pencil Drawing, “Rangoli” Art from India, Scrapbooking, Tole Painting, Cake Decorating, Crocheting for Beginners, andTennis for Kids.
The Beginning Percussion class is for kids age nine through 17 and will meet June 5-16 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Students need to bring their drumsticks, manuscript paper, and notebook. Tuition for Beginning Percussion is $60/student. Optional private lessons will also be available with the instructor, Paul Roberts, for $30/session.
Three different sections of Ceramics for Kids will be taught to children age 7-13. Each week, the class will meet from 10 a.m.-Noon. The classes are scheduled for June 5-9, June 12-16, and June 19-23 and will be taught by Karrie Thatcher at 4 Chicks and a Kiln in Safford. Tuition for Ceramics for Kids is $30 plus a $5 lab fee.
Introduction to Dance, taught by Jenny Rogers, is scheduled for June 5-9, with different ages meeting at different times: ages 3-5 and 6-8 will meet from 11 a.m.-Noon and ages 9-12 and 13-16 will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at 517 W. Main Street in Safford. Tuition for Introduction to Dance is $15/student.
Knitting for Beginners is for children age 8-12 and is scheduled for June 5-9 from 10-11 a.m. in South Campus Classroom #22. Students are asked to bring size ten knitting needles and one skein of knitting worsted yarn. Knitting for Beginners is taught by Pat Gelbach and tuition is $15/student.
Magic for Kids is being offered this year by Jeb Earl. Kids age 7-11 are encouraged to take the class which is scheduled to meet June 5-9 from 10-11 a.m. in South Campus Classroom #13. Tuition for Magic for Kids is $15 plus $2 lab fee per student.
Pencil Drawing will be taught by Karen Fox and is scheduled for two consecutive weeks: June 5-9 (for kids age 7-9) and June 12-16 (for kids age 10 and up), from 1-2 p.m. in South Campus Classroom #13. Tuition for Pencil Drawing is $15/student. Students are asked to bring pencils and paper to class.
“Rangoli” Art from India will be offered for the first time this year by EAC Physics Instructor, Madhuri Bapat. The class is designed for children age five and up and will be offered June 5-16 from 6-7 p.m. in South Campus Classroom #22. Children will learn how to draw ancient designs from India with colored sand. Tuition for “Rangoli” Art from India, is $30/student plus a $2 lab fee.
Scrapbooking is being offered once again this year to students age eight-18 in Math/Science Room #404, June 5-9 from 10 a.m.-Noon. Scrapbooking will be taught by Karen Scott. Tuition is $30/student plus a $30 lab fee. Students need to bring: pictures to fill in their scrapbook, adhesive, and a paper cutter (or they may be purchased from the instructor.)
Four different sections of Tole Painting, the Art of Painting on Wood will be taught this year to students age 6-18. The classes are scheduled form 10 a.m.-Noon at Craft Connection in Safford June 5-9, June 12-16, June 19-23, and June 26-30. Tole Painting, the Art of Painting on Wood will be taught by Debbie Bass. Tuition for the class is $30/student plus a $10 lab fee.
Cake Decorating will be offered to students age 10-18 in two different sections: beginning and intermediate. Both classes are scheduled for June 12-16 with the beginners meeting from 10 a.m.-Noon, and the intermediate students meeting from 1-3 p.m. The class will be held in Building D and will be taught by Sue Surprise. Beginners need to bring an apron, a dishrag, and a cookie sheet. Intermediate students should bring two 8-inch or larger pastry bags, four decorating tips, and an apron, dishrag, and cookie sheet. Tuition for the class is $30/student plus a $10 lab fee.
Tennis for Kids will be offered from June 12-19 with ages 8-10 meeting from 7:30-8:30 a.m., ages 11-13 meeting from 8-9 a.m., and age 14-18 meeting from 8:30-10 a.m.
Crocheting for Beginners is for students age 8-12 and will be taught from 10-11 a.m. the week of June 12-16 in South Campus Classroom #22. The instructor for Crocheting for Beginners will be Pat Gelbach, who asks that all students bring a size H crochet hook and one skein of worsted yarn. Tuition for the class is $15/student.
Adults should register kids for any of the College for Kids classes between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays at EAC’s Records & Registration Office in the Student Services Building through the first day of class. If there are any questions, please call 428-8270.
