THATCHER, AZ—Students in Eastern Arizona College’s Short Story Writing class (ENG234) recently participated in the School Kids Cowboy Poetry Program by judging poems written by 5th and 6th grade students from area schools.

Dr. Marilyn Wilton, EAC short story writing instructor, stated that she and her students are pleased to participate in the judging of the Cowboy Poets Student Program for the third consecutive year. “College level writers can benefit from the fresh perspectives of the younger students,” said Wilton. “This experience also provides my short story writers with valuable practice in responding constructively to each other’s writing during our workshops later this semester.”

Winners from the area elementary schools will read their poetry at the Gila Valley Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering later this month.
