Thatcher, AZ— For the fifth consecutive year, Eastern Arizona College’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been awarded the annual “Center of Excellence” award from the Arizona Friends of Small Business. Mike Fox, director of the EAC SBDC, received the award on July 29, at the Association of Small Business Development Centers’ national conference.

The Center of Excellence Award recognizes centers in the Arizona SBDC network that successfully achieve client service and economic impact goals. During 2008, the Eastern Arizona College SBDC assisted clients in raising over $2.6 million for their businesses. These businesses created 60 new jobs in the local community. The Eastern Arizona College SBDC was one of only six centers state wide to win the award in 2009 and one of only three centers to win the award five years in a row.

“We’re excited about this award because it means that even in these difficult times, the small business owners of the Gila Valley are still working hard to support the local economy,” said Fox.

The Small Business Development Center is sponsored jointly by Eastern Arizona College and the United States Small Business Administration. The center provides free counseling to existing businesses and individuals considering starting their own business.
