By Todd Haynie
THATCHER, AZ—EAC’s Media Communications Department is set to offer a new class beginning this fall that will teach students all aspects of creating media content for the Internet.
Media Production for the Web (MDC155, Section #0585) will be a hands-on class covering reporting, researching, scriptwriting, interviewing, camera work, lighting, audio recording, video editing, graphic design, animation, web programming, and various web media formats.
Students will put into practice what they learn, creating a weekly student events video highlighting upcoming EAC student activities. The video will be published and accessible via the College’s website.
Instructor Kelly Van Shaar has 10 years of experience in the audio/video industry with systems installation and systems design, programming, and support. He has designed and installed audio and video systems in large and small venues throughout the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Samoa. Van Shaar currently owns a local media production company, Van Shaar Productions, which specializes in music, video, web, and 3D projects.
Van Shaar is also an alumnus of Eastern Arizona College where he completed an Associate of Arts degree in Music.
“Only at a school like EAC could an entry-level class provide this kind of hands-on experience in media production,” says Van Shaar.
The three-credit class will be taught this fall on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 5 p.m. in EAC’s Industrial Technology Building, Room 9.
Students 55 and older qualify for a tuition waiver which covers the cost of in-state tuition. To enroll, contact EAC’s Records and Registration Office at (928) 428-8270 or register online at www.eac.edu.
