THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus will host a reading of a children’s story by Harry Swanson, dean of Discovery Park Campus, on Thursday, February 19, 2009, from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in the Discovery Park Campus Jupiter Room. The free event is suitable for children ages 4 to 12.

Each participating child will receive a free copy of “Eli Eagle Builds a Nest” to take home and read on their own. “I feel that reading to our children is a critical process for proper development of future academic skills,” says Swanson. “My small children’s books were designed many years ago in Alaska in order to provide interesting pictures, stories, and lessons for very elementary readers.”

Swanson finds that the lessons of Alaska and its wildlife may not be so familiar here in Arizona, but that their exotic nature still inspires young minds to wonder and read. “Please join us for this reading adventure,” he says.
