THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Discovery Park Campus cultural lecture series continues with “Southwest Tools, Toys, and Medicine,” a free slideshow and lecture to be presented on Saturday, October 18, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jupiter Room of Discovery Park Campus.
The hour-long program will focus on how the Southwest Native Americans traditionally used natural materials, especially plant materials, to create medicines, toys, and other implements. Harry Swanson, dean of EAC’s Discovery Park Campus, says, “Southwest Native Americans, both past and present, have a surprising array of natural medications, ritual instruments, toys for teaching children, and tools for accomplishing everyday tasks.”
