THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s Language Department and EAC Chinese instructor Judy Sun will be offering section #0594, Elementary Chinese (CHI101), for the first time in EAC history this fall. Offered as a five-credit course, Elementary Chinese will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8:50 p.m. in AP-125 and will prepare students for transfer to the language program at a university, or for conversational purposes in business or travel.

Sun moved to the Gila Valley in March 2007, from Guangdong Province, the People’s Republic of China, where she taught for ten years as an English instructor at Taishi Senior High School. “I am very proud of my record at Taishi,” Sun said, “because 95 percent of the students I taught went on to college.”

This is an introductory course and there are no prerequisites required to enroll; so students who feel unsure about whether to sign-up but are interested in learning Chinese should take advantage of this opportunity. “Chinese is one of the five official languages in the United Nations,” Sun said. “With the fast pace of economy and technology in China, ‘He who can get the market in China, can catch the chance to win in their business!’”

To register for this class, call EAC’s Records and Registration Office at 428-8270, or visit Gila Hank Online at www.eac.edu. Students age 55 and over qualify for EAC’s Senior Citizen Tuition Scholarship which covers the full cost of in-state tuition. This five-credit class will cost $120 for other Arizona Residents. However, in many cases, current EAC students can add this class to their schedule at no additional cost. Call the College to find out if you can add this class for free.
