EAC’s College for Kids begins in June

THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College’s College for Kids will be offering a variety of classes when it gets underway the week of June 2. Twenty College for Kids classes will be offered this summer for kids up to 17-years-old.

Once again this year, the cost for the College for Kids classes will range from $15 to $30 depending on the class and its length. In a few instances a modest lab or materials fee may also be charged, and some classes require students to bring an item or two from home.

Competitive Swimming, a favorite for many youngsters, begins on June 2. Bonnie Russell and Jill McCrae will be teaching this month-long class for children ages 6-17. The classes will meet Monday-Friday, with advanced swimmers in the pool from 7-8 a.m. and intermediate and beginning swimmers meeting from 8-9 a.m.

Glenna Clonts and Tye Stewart will teach two sections of Tennis with the first class running June 2-6 for 8-11 year-olds and the second week, June 9-13, reserved for kids age 12-17. Kids should bring their racket if they have one and are encouraged to wear sunscreen.

Introduction to Dance will be offered by Jenny Rogers to kids in two age groups during the week of June 9-13. Three to eight year-olds will meet June 9-13 at the Safford Dance Academy from 11 a.m.-noon, while kids age 9-16 will meet from 12:30-1:30 p.m. the same week.

Summer Bowling Camp is scheduled for June 2-5 and will be taught by Bridget Blair. The class is designed for kids age 5-17 and will meet from 12:30-2 p.m. at Safford Bowl.

Two sections of Parent and Toddler Swim Class will be taught by Patti Wren with the first class running from June 2-6, and the second class from June 16-20. Both classes are scheduled from 10-11 a.m. at the EAC pool and are for toddlers age 6-24 months and their parent.

Clogging for Kids is a new class this year that will be taught by Starla Wright over a two-week period beginning June 2 and running through June 13 in Fine Arts Room 16 on the College’s South Campus. Kids age three-17 are welcome at the class. Comfortable shoes are the only requirement.

Both sections of the Cake Decorating Class are scheduled for June 9-13 with the beginners meeting from 10 a.m.-noon and the intermediate class meeting from 1-3 p.m. in Building D on the Thatcher campus. All kids age 10-17 are welcome to attend the classes which will be taught by Sue Surprise.

Debbie Bass’ popular Ceramics classes are scheduled consecutively with the first class meeting June 2-6 from 10 a.m.-noon and the second class meeting at the same time the following week, June 9-13. The class is for students age 5-17 and will be taught at CraftConnection in Safford.

Pencil Drawing is being offered to two different age groups—8-10 and 11-17—during the week of June 2-6 and again the week of June 9-13 in South Campus classroom 13, by instructor Karen Fox. Each week, the younger kids will meet from 1-2 p.m. with the older group meeting from 2-3 p.m.

Two sections of Fun with Ceramics will be taught at Sage Ceramics by Deborah Perry with the first class meeting the week of June 2-6 and the second class meeting June 9-13. Both classes are scheduled from 1-3 p.m. and are designed for students age 6-17.

Madhuri Bapat’s popular Rangoli Art from India class is scheduled from June 2-6 for kids age 5-15 in the College’s Math-Science room 109. The class is scheduled to meet from 8-10 a.m.

Registration for all of the College for Kids 2008 classes can be taken care of on weekdays at the College’s Records and Registration Office weekdays, now through the first day of the class. Registration hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Specific class information such as exact times, place, and cost may be obtained by calling EAC at 428-8270.
