THATCHER, AZ—The stands at John Mickelson Field were filled to capacity as family and friends gathered for Eastern Arizona College’s annual commencement exercises held the evening of May 11. The number of candidates for graduation was the largest in the history of the college.
Over 350 candidates for graduation were listed in the 117th Annual Commencement program, divided among candidates for Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, Associate of Science, Associate of General Studies, and Associate of Applied Science degrees.
In addition to the traditional portions of the event, the crowd heard comments from a number of individuals including a welcome from EAC President, Mark Bryce and remarks from the President of EAC’s Alumni Association, William Bone.
The guest speaker for the evening was EAC alum, Arden J Palmer. Palmer has been closely associated with higher education at Eastern Arizona College for many years serving in capacities such as president of the EAC Booster Club and as a member of the EAC Foundation Board.
Also taking the podium to speak was a top honor student, Sonya Anderson, daughter of EAC faculty member, Mark Anderson. EAC Science Division Chair David Morris spoke on behalf of the faculty.
A reception in honor of the graduates followed the ceremony at the Gila Hank’s Pavillion.
