THATCHER, AZ—Eastern Arizona College and Phelps Dodge will host the 3rd annual Engineering Day on Monday, April 30 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Gherald L. Hoopes Jr. Activities Center–Aravaipa and Bonita Rooms. All area high school students are invited to attend the day-long event. The day will be filled with individual and team competitions as well as demonstrations and lectures from experts in the field of engineering.
“The events are very competitive!” said EAC Engineering Instructor, Dr. Jack Bailey. “Numerous contributions from Phelps Dodge and strong participation from several high schools are crucial in being able to present students with this opportunity to enjoy math, the sciences, and engineering.”
Any high school student who is interested in participating should contact Bailey by e-mail or phone at firstname.lastname@example.org or 928-428-8226. Registration is free.
Students will earn team and individual points in several competitions throughout the day, and the winners will receive PalmTop computers donated by Phelps Dodge.
Some of the contests include: Poor Man’s Surveyor, Deep Dive, Spaghetti Beam, West Point Bridge, Egg Drop, and the Brain Teaser.
