Thatcher, AZ— Eastern Arizona College Theater Design and Production instructor William Nidiffer was presented with the Region VIII Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival’s Excellence in Education Award at the Faculty Recognition Dinner held during the 2015 festival in St. George, Utah, last week.

“It is with great joy that I write you to let you know that you have been selected to receive this award, which is given in recognition of your valued service to your students as an educator and mentor,” said Matt Neves, chairman of the Region VIII festival in a letter to Nidiffer last month.

Nidiffer has enjoyed designing stage productions and teaching courses in theatre design and production at EAC for the past 14 years. After completing his Master of Fine Arts in Scenic Design at the University of Oklahoma, he operated the Cherokee Scenic Company. He designed and built scenery for such companies as Lyric Musical Theatre, Jewel Box Theatre, Cimarron Circuit Opera Company, and Premier Parks, a national theme park management firm.

Although professional theatre was exciting and artistically rewarding for Nidiffer, educational theatre is where he wanted to focus his talents. His first university job was at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he served as technical director of the Theatre Department for three years before coming to EAC.

“It was a great festival this year,” said EAC Fine Arts Division Chair and previous recipient of this award Trish Jordahl. “And seeing Bill honored for his hard work on behalf of EAC made it extra special.”
