THATCHER, AZ—The stadium was filled at Eastern Arizona College’s annual Band Day, held Saturday, October 14 at John Mickelson Field. The event featured 18 marching bands from high schools all over the state and New Mexico.
Bands were evaluated by a panel of authorities offering taped comments with suggestions for improvement. Seven bands took home a Superior rating and seven took an Excellent rating, qualifying them for the Division IV State Marching Band Festival in November.
High school bands receiving a Superior rating were Pima, Thatcher, Morenci, Williams, Sahuarita (Tucson), Amphitheater (Tucson), and Gadsden (New Mexico). Bands receiving an Excellent rating were Willcox, Ray, Maricopa, Blue Ridge, Buckeye, Desert View (Tucson), and Santa Teresa (New Mexico). Bands receiving a Good rating were Miami, Safford, Snowflake, and Santa Cruz.
“EAC’s Band Day is an opportunity for band students from small and large high schools around the state to perform and showcase their efforts and hard work and receive suggestions for growth from a panel of experts in the activity,” said Dr. Clay Redfield, EAC’s director of bands.
“We are privileged to host these terrific high school bands and hope these students consider the EAC band program in their future plans.”
