Thatcher and Safford, Arizona, are located in a beautiful rural area about 125 miles northeast of Tucson and 165 miles southeast of Phoenix.

Economics:

The communities of Thatcher and Safford are the principal centers of population in the Upper Gila Valley in southeastern Arizona.

Farming is the chief economic contributor to the community. Cotton is the principal agricultural commodity. Another major contributor is the copper mining by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. Phelps Dodge is one of the largest copper producers in the world. Tourism has become the second largest industry in Graham County. Winter visitors are attracted to the climate and variety of natural resources, including hiking, swimming, fishing, hunting, and rock hounding.
